Do we contain Bovaer?Updated 5 months ago

The short answer is no.

To be honest, when we first heard this term, we had to look it up!

The bovear UK trial looks to be taking place with Arla Foods and a number of UK supermarkets

Bovaer is a supplement that is added to cattle feed, according to DSM Firmenich, the Swiss-Dutch manufacturer that makes it. It is designed to break down in the cow's digestive system and quickly decompose into "naturally occurring compounds already present in the rumen [part of the stomach] of a cow".

To be clear, we are not involved in this test. We buy our organic dairy from Cotteswold Dairy which is family owned and nothing to do with Arla. Furthermore our double cream and butter is organic which is governed by strict legislation to ensure the whole process is kept as natural and un-messed with.

We have personally been to one of the farms, the cows eat grass in the fields and walk themselves in to be milked (we’ve got a blog on this on the website) https://www.russellandatwell.com/blogs/news/fresh-organic-cream-better-by-nature.

Finally, on 2nd December 2024, Cotteswold released this statement:

"An Important message from Cotteswold Dairy
The collaboration with industry professionals is important as we look at efficiently reducing our carbon footprint. Through discussion groups the farmers are able to look at areas of their business that could benefit. However this is NOT by feeding Bovaer.
Cotteswold Dairy milk is gently pasteurised to keep its high quality and taste for you to enjoy and the Red Tractor Accreditation that ourselves and all of our farmers have means it is safe and farmed with care" 🥛

P.S. We were actually first asked by a dairy farmer (thanks Jason) who is a current customer. A bit like dentists who use a certain toothpaste, we were delighted to hear that people in the industry buy us...
