How will my chocolates be packaged?Updated 2 months ago

Packaging materials

While we try to keep our packaging simple... we have discovered that packaging is actually a complicated area!  We have always strived to minimise environmental impact, whilst also having packaging that can protect our fresh chocolates in the cold & sometimes moist environment of home fridges.

The overwhelming majority of our chocolates  are packed in LDPE4 pouches - recyclable at most supermarkets - or in recycled glass jars for premium gifting.  Our Eco Refill pouches (for refilling the glass jars) are made from glassine paper (recyclable as paper)

Occasionally we use Oxo-Degradable pouches for small runs (like Cherry Lush, or Micro Batches) which we hand-label with paper stickers. This is because we can't produce a small enough run for our main pouches (or occasionally run out and use them as a backup). The Oxo pouches are made from oxo-biodegradable materials which are generally accepted to be a better environmental option than standard non-recyclable flexible plastic packaging.  Our pouches will break down in a much shorter timeframe than standard plastic flexible packaging. In a landfill oxo-degradable plastics will degrade to water and carbon dioxide and leave no toxic biproducts. Most recycling companies do not accept oxo-degradable plastics as there is the potential for the oxo additives (which help breakdown the plastic) to impact the quality of the recycled plastic. It is suggested that you put the pouches in with your non-recyclable waste.

We use paper bubble-wrap, sizzle-paper filler, recyclable tissue paper and recyclable cardboard postal boxes.

What will my parcel look like?

If you order 1, 2 or 3 pouches, these will be packaged in flat, letterbox-friendly cardboard packs.

Anything over 3 pouches - including our Celebration 6-packs and all our jars - will be packaged in parcel boxes.  These do not fit through a letterbox.

(NB If an order is placed 'with ice' - which is a summer hot weather option - then this will always be packed in a parcel box, regardless of what the order is)

Do you combine products when you pack them?

Yes, if there is more than one product in an order, our default is to save packaging by packing them together - e.g. if you ordered a Golden Monty and a Champagne Monty, we would put all 6 pouches together into one parcel box.

However, if you would like your Golden Monty and your Champagne Monty to be separately packaged - perhaps because you're ordering them ready to give to two different people - then we have a new solution for you!

As soon as you have more than one product in your basket, a tickbox will automatically appear above the blue Check out button:  'Please ship items in separate boxes'.

Selecting this option won’t add any extra packing or shipping costs - the overall delivery fee will stay the same. But, depending on the size of the order, the separate boxes will be prepared for shipping by e.g. gently taping them together with removable paper tape, combining them in paper wrapping, or popping them together into a single larger box.  So all the products in your order will still arrive in one package, but they're easily separated ready to gift.

NB  You will also still only receive a single delivery note inside your order, so you won't be able to add an individual gift message for each product - sorry!
